The Flying Scot is a roomy day sailer capable of carrying 4 students and an
instructor comfortably.
Sunfish and Flying Scot (Available April through October)
The entire family gets to learn techniques of sailing a Flying Scot and a Sunfish. A
full day hands-on lesson consists of three parts.
Part 1: 1-hour classroom lesson covering sailing theory, emergency procedures and
emergency communication, Texas Boat Safety requirements, and basic knots
needed on the boat and the dock.
Part 2: 2 and ¼ hours of hands-on sailing practice – Typically the parents and one
child practice their sailing on the Flying Scot and one child receives one-to-one
sailing instruction on a Sunfish.
Part 3: 2 and ¼ hours of hands-on sailing practice – Typically the parents continue
on the Flying Scot and the children switch boats, with the another child receiving one-
to-one sailing instruction on a Sunfish.
Cost: $560
Caveats:
All children under age 13 years must wear a life jacket (PFD) while on board the
boats while underway.
All students, adult and youth, must wear a life jacket (PFD) while in the lake.
This lesson is designed with for families consisting of no more than 5 in the family.  
Families with a different makeup must contact South Texas Sailing before purchasing
this lesson to ensure the entire family’s needs can be met.
Sunfish students must have completed their 6th grade year or be at least 12 years
old. Exceptions will be considered on an individual basis.
Exact lesson content and activities are subject to wind and weather conditions.
No one under age 18 may be left on shore without adult supervision.
